Britain’s largest independent brickmaker Marshalls has launched the Contemporary Collection, a striking range of modern facing bricks for creating clean, minimalist elevations and brickwork details. Strong aesthetics and design versatility make it easy for architects to create a unique aesthetic or blend-in with the vernacular.

Available in attractive shades from white and cream to grey, blue and green, and in a range of smooth, sand textured and weathered finishes, the bricks are hard to beat on price, competing very favourably against imported clay creams and blues.

The new bricks focus on the natural colours of carefully selected aggregates and offer excellent colour and weathering characteristics, as well as the technical superiority of concrete which actually hardens with age.  The manufacturing process ensures dimensional accuracy and sharp arrises, which makes it easier to achieve quality brickwork and speed up setting out and laying.

Virtually indistinguishable from their clay counterparts, concrete bricks contribute to thermal mass, offer long-term durability and can be recycled.  They are not hampered by the high embodied energy of fired clay and have a smaller carbon footprint than clay imports.

Bellway is currently using the smooth-faced Midnight Blue mono to stunning effect for its City East development in the heart of the Thames Gateway at Barking Riverside.
