Baltic Square forms part of the prestigious Gateshead Quays development, one of the most exciting arts, leisure, and residential destinations in Europe. It is already famous for its landmark projects, including the Millennium Bridge, the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, and Baltic Quays.
The development of Baltic Square aimed to create a stylish pedestrianised area as an aesthetically pleasing entrance to Gateshead’s Millennium Footbridge. Marshalls were required to supply high-quality paving for the pedestrian precinct to complement the stylish environment throughout Gateshead Quays.
The procurement for this was by an intensive quality bid process, against all the major manufacturers of natural stone and landscape products, Marshalls’ presentation won the contract.
Marshalls’ specialists provided a complete product solution for the development. Around £250,000 of materials were supplied, including Bespoke Pink Granite Steps with high-visibility nosings, Granite Setts, and concrete block paving.
By working together with engineers, Marshalls were able to provide a unique type of Conservation X Kerb for both the Baltic Square and the whole of the Baltic Quays. The specialist kerb provided the required charcoal grey colour to blend seamlessly with the paving. Other products supplied included Caithness Stone, providing feature banding within a large area of granite aggregate flags.
“We were impressed by the high quality of service provided by Marshalls. Their unique products provided much added-value to the development, and they provided a complete product solution of the high quality required.” Harbour and General.
