Marshalls Mortars & Screeds recently secured a contract to supply clients UKS Group with screed for the extension floors at Greenhead College in Huddersfield.
Greenhead College has been working with the Department for Education on the changes and plans for significant improvements to the current estate. This will involve replacing Biology and Chemistry facilities with new laboratories and classrooms, with the building work overseen by Galliford Try Construction.
The upgrades at Greenhead College are part of a broader government plan to see tens of thousands of pupils benefit from new, modern, energy-efficient school buildings. Fifty schools across the UK have been confirmed for the first wave of the Prime Minister’s ten-year rebuilding programme to increase opportunities for all.
Ian Slinger, Senior Sales Manager for Marshalls Mortars & Screeds, said, "We have a long-standing relationship with UKS Group, supplying both their traditional sand-cement and Flowing Screed requirements. On this job, our client was very concerned about the H&S implications of traditional screed being pumped up 3 storeys and the potential implications of so much pipework snaking. Flowing screed pipework does not snake-like traditional pumped screed, so this issue was immediately eliminated by selecting this product."
Tom Houlton, Commercial Manager at UKS Group, said:
"UKS secured the screeding package with Galliford Try Construction for the extension work at Greenhead College in Huddersfield. In the original plans, we had suggested using a traditional Premscreed from Marshalls; however, due to constraints on site, it became apparent that Cementitious Liquid Screed would be a more beneficial product for this scheme to meet the needs and expectations of our client.
Marshalls Mortars & Screeds is our supply partner for traditional and liquid screeds. Two of their plants are near the Greenhead College site,so we knew they could meet our requirements for this project.
Their Longfloor Cementitious flowing screed was chosen, and Marshalls supplied 58.5m3 for us in 1 day.
The project consists of over 3,500m2 of screed, and due to the speed of the installation and service from Marshalls, we will be able to pour the entire floor area in 6 visits."
