London’s Design District, in the heart of the Greenwich Peninsula, is a new neighbourhood for creative businesses. Sixteen unique purpose-built buildings designed by eight different architects provide a cluster of varying workspaces that encourage ideas to thrive.
Complementing the modern and inspiring hive of architecture is a buzzy central square, four co-working areas, and narrow streets connecting the District, allowing creativity to overflow into the outdoors.
The vision of landscape architects Schulze+Grassov is that the public realm is to the Design District what a dinner table is to a good dinner party. An important democratic platform for communication and community building. Landscaped with beautiful grey Marshalls Callisto granite, the space features striking irregularly shaped benches crafted from the complementary silvery tones of Marshalls Propsero granite. Scattered throughout the Design District, the benches provide seating for creatives to connect, share ideas, or take a break.
Sweeping benches and edges, also in Marshalls Callisto, guide footfall through the space and create sub-areas along with tree pit islands to provide greenery. These uniquely created features are all formed from individual sections of the same material slotted together like a meticulously designed jigsaw to ensure a smooth, seamless finish.
