Project Brief
Peter Harding Construction faced poor ground conditions at St Wilfred's Academy. Any effective drainage solution that would be introduced needed to bear this in mind and ensure the health and safety of the team. The initial drainage design included orifice chambers and Hydro-Brake chambers within the surface water network using traditional systems.
Solution
Following discussions about an off-site option and reviewing the initial cost implications, Marshalls Civils and Drainage presented a full package of sealed 1200mm and 1500mm Perfect Manholes and off-site options for orifice and Hydro-Brake chambers. Additionally, a full assessment of the pipe diameter and type was conducted, highlighting construction durability and cost savings achievable through the use of an alternative pipe bedding. By opting for precast concrete pipes over plastic pipes, the construction was able to benefit from a different bedding requirement, resulting in environmental and cost savings. The use of 450mm and 525mm precast concrete pipes was agreed upon to meet design criteria and ground conditions, with potential cost reductions in mind.
Client Comments
Ray Harding of Peter Harding Construction said “The overall solution not only accelerates the installation of the drainage requirements, it also allows for the installation of the drainage in poor ground conditions, it easier and more economically than traditional build”.
