Time Square in Warrington’s Bridge Street Quarter is a £107 million retail and leisure-led development designed to enhance the existing town centre and welcome a diverse mix of leisure and retail facilities alongside a vibrant public square.
The initial masterplan and concept drawings for the street furniture were created by Gillespies in Leeds, for Warrington Borough Council and Muse Developments. Marshalls assisted Gillespies with the design and detail development at RIBA stage 3 and 4.
Project solution
Vinci was appointed as the main contractor, and Landscape Architects Gillespies were keen to maintain Marshalls’ design support and expertise for the bespoke Callisto granite and timber furniture and stone paving. Marshalls collaborated with Gillespies and Vinci, where construction design drawings were developed, approved, manufactured, and delivered.
Throughout the bespoke process, Marshalls ensured complimentary design features were delivered across the street furniture components and the granite paving, providing a fluid and consistent feel.
A variety of bespoke angular granite planters, combined with timber-top seating and standalone granite benches, were created for the scheme to complement the stone paving, which was also provided by Marshalls. Spanning the length of the development, the decorative multi-functional units provide a distinctive look synonymous with the surrounding aesthetics, the simple geometric surface detailing extending throughout Time Square.
Selected sections of the seating and planters offer additional hardwood timber slats and granite coping sections with discreet recess channels, allowing for the subtle integration of LED lighting. The seating elements are fronted with seamless granite hinged swing doors, offering easy access to the services.
Designed to complement the environment and coordinate with one another, selected products from the GEO collection have also been installed, including park lights, light stacks, bollards and signage. Marshalls also provided a selection of stainless steel cycle stands, along with litter bins from the Natural Elements collection.
The Time Square welcomes an abundance of attractions and business opportunities to residents of Warrington and beyond, with the street furniture elements providing an environment for visitors to sit and relax.
