What are manholes?

Manholes are covered openings that provide access to drainage systems, like sewers and storm drains. 

They provide a convenient way for engineers to access underground pipes for maintenance, cleaning, repairs, and replacements. This ensures that drainage and sewage networks can easily be inspected for issues like damages, leaks, or blockages without the need for extensive excavation. 

What types of manholes do Marshalls sell?

Marshalls’ range of civils and drainage products includes traditional and sealed manholes, including precast concrete manhole rings, heavy-duty manhole covers, and drain cover slabs. 

The range also offers various shapes and sizes, including circular concrete chamber sections and rectangular drain covers.

The sealed manhole system was introduced to tackle modern construction challenges. It is available in 1200mm, 1500mm, and 1800mm diameters. 

Our sealed manhole system includes a monolithic precast concrete base, a sealed chamber ring, a rubber joint, and a sealed cover slab with the required access. This product complies with BSEN 1917:2002 and BS5911-3 and is accepted for use by all major UK companies.

The traditional tongue-and-groove range of concrete manhole rings, ranging from 900 mm to 3000 mm, comply with BS EN 1917:2002 and/or BS 5911-3:2010. Although British or European rules do not cover our 3660mm and 4000mm manhole chambers, these products comply with the relevant provisions of the standards.

All our precast concrete chamber rings are available in BIM (Building Information Modelling) format, which is a requirement for all government construction projects.
