Product Details

Discover Marshalls' range of retanol floor screed, designed to dry quickly and strongly and suitable for foot traffic as early as 24 hours after being laid.

Retanol is the only TUV-certified screed additive recognised under EU standards as having no negative impact on human health when handled or added to a floor screed installation.

Our range also includes Retanol BW screed, suitable for foot traffic after 48 hours and site traffic after 7 days.

Marshalls' retanol screeds are manufactured to the requirements of BS EN 13813 under a quality scheme certified to ISO 9001 and regularly tested to the requirements of British standards.

What is retanol screed?

Retanol screed is an advanced cement-based flooring solution that uses retanol to accelerate drying times and enhance overall performance. Unlike conventional screeds, it requires no curing or fibre reinforcement, significantly reducing application complexity.

Designed for both bonded and unbonded installations, Retanol screed offers superior crack resistance, low shrinkage tension, and exceptional thermal conductivity when used with underfloor heating systems.

What are the benefits of retanol screed?

Marshalls' retanol screed has the following benefits:

  • It vastly reduces drying times and enables the final floor finish to be installed much earlier
  • It's suitable for foot traffic as soon as 24 hours
  • It can handle MEWPS and Fork Lift traffic after 7 days for bonded and unbonded screeds
  • Its fast strength development achieves 80 to 90% of final flexural and compressive strength within 4 – 5 days
  • It offers an extended working life with a shorter drying time
  • Its improved workability enables easier installation and compaction
  • Enhances pumping of screed
  • It's ideal for underfloor heating systems with enhanced thermal conductivity due to higher self-compaction and reduced air pores
  • Shrinkage cracks are minimal

Retanol screed variants

Our range of retanol screeds includes two high-performance options:

Retanol

  • Minimum compressive strength of 40 N/mm²
  • Minimum flexural strength of 6 N/mm²
  • Bonded screeds from 25mm and unbonded/floating screeds from 35mm
  • Minimal shrinkage tension, reducing the risk of cracks
  • No curing required
  • No fibre reinforcement is needed
  • Excellent thermal conductivity (λ = 2.35 W/m²K), with underfloor heating operational after 48 hours
  • Underfloor heating pipes require a minimum coverage of 30mm (as per BS 8204)

Retanol BW

  • Minimum compressive strength of 35 N/mm²
  • Minimum flexural strength of 5 N/mm²
  • Bonded screeds from 25mm and unbonded/floating screeds from 35mm
  • Minimal shrinkage tension, reducing the risk of cracks
  • No curing required
  • No fibre reinforcement needed

Why choose Marshalls' retanol screed?

Marshalls is a leading provider of high-quality building materials, offering innovative solutions that meet and exceed industry standards.

One key advantage of buying commercial building mortar and screed from us is that we make our own. So, you can work with our design team to ensure mixes are suitable for your project's specific needs and requirements.
