Early Careers is something we are proud to promote and develop within Marshalls. We work with a number of local colleges and training providers offering work experience placements and apprenticeship opportunities for people starting out in their career journey.

A great example of this is Kara London, who started off in our Customer Services team, but thanks to her apprenticeship you’ll now find her driving one of our famous red Marshalls lorries…

Kara said: “I was always looking to develop myself in new areas, and learn a completely new skill. Driving is something I love doing and the logistics industry is an area that I wanted to branch into. So when Marshalls offered the Driver Academy programme I saw it as an amazing opportunity, which would hopefully make me employable for the rest of my life.

Every day I am learning a lot about the overall logistics of Marshalls and the day to day routine of a Marshalls HGV Driver. I’ve already got my Fork Lift Licence via Marshalls, as well as passing my ALLMI Lorry Loader Training. Shadowing Drivers has taught me a lot about our vehicles, how to load and unload and The Marshalls Way of working.”

Kara’s manager, Steve Page, said:

“The apprentice scheme has given me a blank canvas to teach our new apprentices. My apprentices are really grateful for the opportunity. They’re always very interested and inquisitive, and asking relevant questions.

Due to the live camera systems we have on the truck it’s satisfying to watch the apprentices put into practice what they’ve learnt, and doing things the right way – The Marshalls Way.”

Apprenticeships are an exceptional way to learn and apply new skills while you work. They’re the cornerstone of how we develop our people today to meet the skills we’ll need in the future. We look forward to welcoming more people onto an apprenticeship course!
