Marshalls plc has triumphed at this year’s PLC Awards by picking up the Achievement in Sustainability Award for the second year running.

Chris Harrop, who champions sustainability at Marshalls and is Building’s Green Guru, picked up the award at the ceremony held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel. Attended by 1,500 guests including quoted companies, investment banks, fund managers, investment analysts, and corporate advisors, the PLC Awards dinner took place on Thursday 11 March 2010.

Chris said: “To win this award last year was fantastic, but to win it again this year is a real achievement. The judges said: ‘Nobody does it better than Marshalls’ and that’s the reason we continue to lead our industry in terms of sustainability.

Chris continues: “2009 hasn’t been the easiest year for anyone but sustainability is the only way to go if we want to tackle serious global issues like climate change. At Marshalls, sustainability is part of our DNA, it’s the way we do business. It’s only by adopting a sustainable approach that businesses can really start to make an impact on the triple bottom line.”

The Achievement in Sustainability award recognises accomplishments in one or more of the three key areas of the triple bottom line: economic, environmental and social sustainability. It also recognises companies that make their own operations more sustainable and play an important role in helping address wider issues such as the causes and effects of climate change. The Voting Panel looks for leadership, innovation and a lasting commitment to sustainability.
