Marshalls has triumphed at this year’s Ethical Corporation Responsible Business Awards by picking up the Best Collaboration Award for its work in India.

The Awards ceremony took place in London on 3 May 2011, on the first night of the Responsible Business Summit, Europe's biggest management event for sustainability directors and managers.

Group Marketing Director, Chris Harrop, received the award on behalf of Marshalls. He said: “Ethical Corporation is a really highly regarded organisation in sustainability and ethics so it’s a real honour for Marshalls to win one of the Responsible Business Awards. We’ve been working with our partners in India for many years and our health and education programme is benefiting entire communities. It’s something we’re really proud of at Marshalls.”

Working with Indian NGO Hadoti Hast Shilp Sansthan in Rajasthan, Marshalls is implementing the Ethical Trading Initiative's (ETI) Base Code and provides health camps and schools for the children of quarry workers. Marshalls’ programme in India now provides five regular schools and six street schools, medical and seasonal disease camps, and life insurance.

The award judges said: “This award is deserved for a partnership around a significant issue for Marshalls’ business. The judges felt Marshall's work is a brave move in a complex environment, showing significant progression in 2010.”
